West Elementary Lion’s Roar
All students should be signed up for reading minutes. Each student should be able to log on by going to RTSUTAH.com and entering their user name and password which was sent home with each student. If your child has trouble logging into the RTSUtah.com program or has trouble with user name and password, please contact Mrs. Taylor in the library. Students can stop in or you can text her at firstname.lastname@example.org
Logging minutes started August 20, 2018 and will end May 3, 2019. You will not be able to log minutes after that date. The upper computer lab is available every Monday and Friday at 8:30 am for those students that cannot log in minutes at home. They will be able to log in the entire weeks’ worth of minutes.
Monthly prizes will be given out all year to students who log their minutes each week. Larger prize drawings of MP4 players, Book Fair Gift Certificates, and a Swim Party will be available to those that log in 30 or more minutes a day this year. At the end of the year medals will be awarded to those that achieve the following minutes:
5000 minutes – Bronze Medal
7500 minutes – Silver Medal
10,000 minutes – Gold Medal
PTA Reflections is going on right now. It gives individual students a chance to show their artistic talent. The theme for their year’s contest is “Hero’s Around Me”. All students from K – 6 are invited to participate. Categories for entry are Visual Arts (2D & 3D), Photography, Film, Literature, Dance and Music. Anyone interested in entering the art contest may fill out an entry form and give it and their entry to Mrs. Taylor by September 10. Entry forms may be picked up either from Mrs. Taylor or found online under PTA.org/Reflections.
$20 and $10 gift certificates to the Scholastic Book Fair will be given out as prizes. Awards night will be Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 pm.
The Scholastic Fall Book Fair begins September 17 and runs through September 21. There will be many great books and supplies to purchase for reading this new school year. This is the first of three book fairs for the year. The Scholastic Book Fair opens at 8:30 am each day and closes ½ hour after school. It will be open Sept. 18 & 19 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm during Parent/Teacher Conference. Please come check out the great books from the Book Fair.
Last year so many library books were destroyed because filled water bottles leaked in students backpacks. Students, please DO NOT put water bottles with liquid in them in your backpack. Either bring an empty bottle to fill here at school and empty before your go home, or carry it separately. If a library book gets wet, it will be considered destroyed and you will have to pay for it. Thanks for your help. J
